The Internet has changed the way people search for work. It has made job hunting quick, and given people easy access to a far wider range of professions. Matching people is one of the things the web is great
at - just look at the number of dating sites out there. Matching people with jobs is not so different and the net is definitely a useful recruitment tool
which provides a means to search, apply and research career issues.
One of the easiest and most successful ways to find work on-line is through a job board. These are web sites that advertise jobs across a range of industry sectors or in a specific industry. On these sites you can search for vacancies, apply, receive
job offers by email and store your CV.
On-line job boards have now been around for about ten years in the UK and the chances are that most of you reading this will have some experience of searching for work on them or you will certainly know someone who has. Maybe you will have registered with a couple; you may have uploaded your CV.
In the US, large job boards such as Monster.com have really ingrained themselves in the recruitment process. In the UK it is still predominantly agencies that advertise their jobs
on-line, however, this trend is starting to change as more companies realise that it's a great way to reach a large audience cost effectively.
